 About the Library

Named after the original Barry House, an adult retreat center in Brant Lake, NY, our theological library is one of the original buildings at Christ the King Center.  Barry House is an extensive library and resource center serving the guests of Christ the King and the Episcopal Diocese of Albany.

The building offers a homey and relaxed atmosphere with its beautiful stonework, huge wraparound deck overlooking the pond, and elegant wood paneling in the interior.  Inside you'll find study tables, a cozy sitting area, and a sunroom.  It's the perfect place to read, study, or just relax.Barry House Library

Around the corner is a small kitchen, and just past that, the residential wing of the library.  These comfortable rooms are excellent for a study visit or quiet retreat.

We have books on a broad range of spiritual and theological subjects, as well as a variety of Bible translations and study materials.  While these resources are the focus of the library, we also keep collections in history, social sciences, arts, and literature.  Other available resources include periodicals, videos, and music.

The books and resources of Barry House come from several sources.  The bulk of our materials are a consolidation of the old Barry House library and St. Mary's Convent library.  While the Sisters still keep a small library in the convent itself, they have generously incorporated most of their resources into the main library, making them available to all of our guests.  Further donations of books and resources keep our collections growing continually.  We are extremely grateful to all those who help to make our library what it is.

The library makes a great meeting space for 25 people or fewer.  You may also arrange for your group to have meals in the cafe-style kitchen, or take advantage of the ample deck space when the weather is good.

We hope you get a chance to come be our guest and enjoy the library yourself!
